I straight up cut cops out of my life over twenty years ago. What the middle class is just now finally seeing, thanks to cameras and unrelenting pressure, is something that any poor person in the country, regardless of skin color, has known all their lives.
Cops are not color blind, they do go after dark skinned people harder. But they go after EVERYONE below the upper levels of the middle class. It's extractive (some places still have "highwayman laws" that give police a piece of the ticket action) , violent, and very much wrong.
In poor neighborhoods, cops act like an army of occupation. They very openly participate in the criminal underground, and then turn on their "partners" at any opportunity. They engage in entrapment constantly, they do absolutely anything they can to maximize their profit, usually measured in arrests.
There are no good apples. You cannot, I repeat *CANNOT* be a cop without knowing what they are. They literally teach it in their training. How to get around Miranda. How to lie to get a suspect/victim to "confess". Etc.
I could go on about this forever, but I shan't. Ask any poor person what a "good" cop looks like. The answer will shame you if you adhere to the "good apple" ideation.
The actual purpose of the American police is to keep the slaves in line. Period. They do protect and serve, but that's beside the point. The real question is Whom do they protect? Whom do they serve?
Hint: It ain't you.
