I think this part needs to be bolded. Not just here, but in every single discussion of environmental policy.

But snark aside, the base really does seem to believe that when we say we need to transition away from carbon fuels, we mean IMMEDIATELY and without an eye to the consequence. An argument I've heard literally no one make aside from right wing strawmen.
