I wasn't always on the left. This part, I think, hits really hard.

My goal in my personal philosophy has always been to build better humans, and large government *seems* like it's anathema to that. The deeper you look, the more that model falls apart, but it was hard for me to let go of certain beliefs...

And I was not nearly as invested in them as the rank and file of the Republican party.
