Humor aside (or as much aside as I'm capable of), I disagree with you on the ad hominem. Generally, what you state is true, but there are times when the character of the person making the proposition literally is the crux of whether you should believe them or even consider their argument. For instance, I can think of a certain Orange Baboon (see what I did there?) that one should question literally anything he says, even if you believe he inadvertently told the truth.

As to the issue of swearing, I'm gonna riposte by saying that it's rather contextual and that a harsh word is often more impactful.

For instance: "That's a terrible idea" does not have any where near the impact of "That's fucking STUPID!"
