It takes time. When this is what you're raised on, and religion to boot, you have a serious cognitive dissonance problem.

People who are given to thought and analysis are a serious danger to the existence of conservativism, so they are co-opted from a young age. Teach somebody from birth that certain things/people cannot be questioned, ever, and that somebody spends their formative years with huge blind spots.

Those given to thought tend to either start questioning and go through a crisis of faith in which they find a voice, or commit suicide (as a LOT of my generation are doing).

I am not guessing, this is the voice of experience. And unless we, the thinking people, can find a way to bridge the gap, this country will fall.
