One caveat. First off, the 1911 in almost all it's variants is a damn fine weapon. That being said, it is NOT the gun for a small person, male or female.

I'm definitely a fan of 9mm, because the impact on my (small) wrist if far less, and I can therefore shoot more accurately and take advantage of being ambidextrous.

Always take the time to test and become familiar with a weapon before you buy it or carry it.
