It seems we've had the same thought, from a bit different angle.
I've been saying for years, before declaring myself a leftist, even, that we need BOLD leaders who are willing to tell the other side to get bent. People follow bold leaders. The ones who are interested, because bold ideas are indicative of change, and the others because they are followers.
Trump* isn't much of a leader, but he's bold, brash, outrageous, and uncompromising. So sheep followed him. It didn't matter to them (and still doesn't, apparently), that he was leading them to the slaughterhouse.
Now, imagine a bold leader with a conscience, and a plan...
...who understands that if people are willing to follow you to hell, you have an obligation not to lead them there!
