As a parent, you would quickly shut down that fondling of the sharp pointy thing, but then explain that it's because it can hurt you/them.

Maybe that's a good way to approach the knee-jerk racist... something like "Look dude, I know you didn't mean anything by that, but it can and does hurt others. Think about it, huh?"

Obviously, some folks you can't reach. But most (I hope) outside of the TrumpZone are not deliberately racist, they're just ignorant and afraid. Maybe some education and guidance will help.
