While I see your point, I can also present a counterpoint.
The poorest are deliberately kept ignorant. It's not that they haven't the wit to understand, it's that most of us literally do not have time. When you have to work 2 jobs to keep food in your belly and a roof over your head, you are exhausted and angry.
The conservatives, round the world, are very good at tapping into that anger with easily remembered platitudes devoid of meaning, and they paint anyone to the left of Hitler as "elitists" and "disconnected from the working world".. etc.
Then they give them some others to hate. Punching down is easier than punching up. Since the real and (if you have a moment to breathe and observe) goal of conservative movements is plutocratic oligarchy and despotism, they have to escalate this lie.
The masses are easily led because they are kept at a bare subsistence. When you are in survival mode, as most of us are these days, you don't have time, energy, or will to think. This is the state they aim for.
The left, then, needs to learn how to push that message and be just as polemic as the right. Facts and Figures do not carry the emotional weight that "those people over there are screwing you" does.
Having stated the problem, I'm not that good at short memes that are easily remembered. But that is where the left needs to go. This fight is not beneath us, and if we ignore or eschew the successful tactics of our enemy (and they are our enemies), then they will win. Their strength is in a unified lie. We need a unified truth. And it needs to be REALLY LOUD.
