Conservatives are moral cowards
Conservatives do not fight liberal or progressive idea(l)s out of conviction, but rather, out of cowardice. Some overt, some programmed and unconscious.
I know this, because I used to be a conservative. Breaking the mold is difficult in any cult (conservatism has many cult-like properties), and I was of course, censured. Frequently by my own “allies”. Luckily, most of my friends at the time were pretty centrist, so I didn’t lose many of them. But I digress…
Conservatives engage in a lot of magical, or worse, black and white “thinking”. I put that in quotes, because thinking is nearly forbidden in conservative circles. Liberals and progressives are The Enemy. It does not matter what the ideology expressed is, Conservatives are not allowed to listen. Never mind that many of the things the left is now actively working for were once considered conservative ideas (like UBI, for instance), it is the source. If a liberal or progressive said it, it must be ignored or vilified.
If, as they claim, all of these ideals are doomed to fail, then why do the work so hard to sabotage them?
Because they don’t believe it will fail. They don’t believe that at all. They live in absolute terror that we will succeed!
