Rethinking Capitalism, Part 3
How to implement Universal Basic Income in a capitalist system.
In my previous articles in this series, I have illustrated some of the benefits, and objections, to a Universal Basic Income. What I deliberately have not done is dealt with how to make it happen.
That’s because there’s several ways to do it, most of which conservatives find frightening.
But!
I will state unequivocally that the United States can comfortably implement a UBI in a very short time. We have the means, but our leaders on the left lack the will, and those on the right enjoy the suffering that unrestricted capitalism brings. The latter cannot be fixed. Psychopaths, at least currently, cannot be effectively treated for their disorder. The former, however, need to be educated on a different way of looking at things. That’s really it.
So, let’s dive in..
The Taxation Model:
Under this schema, we add a tax, probably a Value Added Tax, and use that to fund a very small UBI. Andrew Yang proposed this in his bid for the presidency. He’s a smart man, to say the least, and it’s a well thought out plan.
